Woppaburra was proud to be part of a reef restoration trial partnering with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s Reef Joint Field Management Program, Mars Incorporated, Keppel Dive and Snorkel, Freedom Fast Cats and Konomie Island Environmental Education Centre.
Yarul Dhingiga (meaning Yarul- connecting rope and Dhingiga- setting down) is the name of a project that trials the use of metal frames as rubble stabilisers for reef restoration making it a possible tool for reef recovery after extreme weather events and more.
Woppaburra TUMRA Aboriginal Corporation’s Meaghan Cummins said the project provided an opportunity for a number of Woppaburra participants who not only learned about the science of reef recovery but were able to share their perspectives on our precious cultural values of Woppaburra Sea Country.
