Heron Island TUMRA Coordinator’s Workshop March 2023

The five-day workshop was coordinated and facilitated by the Reef Authority, which brought together 20 Traditional Owners from across 11 TUMRA groups involved in implementing or developing TUMRAs. All participants engaged and actively participated in a culturally safe manner, sharing their knowledge and experiences in sea country management.

Coral Larval Restoration Training
During the on-country spawning event, three Woppaburra participants including Joseph Geas, Joseph Geas Junior and Jackson Van Issum, were selected by to participate in program to trial a new training package developed by Jordan Ivey (AIMS), to learn about the in-situ methodology of coral larval restoration.

Konomie Island Environmental Education Centre P&C Planting

Members of the Woppaburra Saltwater Aboriginal Corporation and Woppaburra TUMRA joined in on a community planting hosted by the KIEEC P&C on Konomie in early June 2023.

Seagrow project- Reef Champion Award winners

Late last year SeaGrow Konomie Island project take out the Reef Champion Awards- Reef Community Champion for our partnership project in CQ Seagrass Regeneration. Thanks to the Keppel Island Environmental Education Centre and all our partner organisations for their continual hard work in this project, helping to heal Woppaburra Sea Country.

Cultural Awareness- Woppaburra Mobs come together to raise awareness on Woppaburra cultural values

The weekend of the 3rd and 4th of June 2023 saw members of the Woppaburra TUMRA Aboriginal Corporation and the Woppaburra Saltwater Aboriginal Corporation come together to create a cultural awareness video.
