ReefClean is funded by the Australian Government’s Reef Trust and is delivered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation in partnership with a variety of organisations.
Launched in early 2019, ReefClean is a program of targeted and integrated marine debris activities aimed at reducing the volume of debris generated in or entering the Great Barrier Reef that may impact threatened and migratory species and ecosystems.
Given that this aligns with identified WTAC objectives, we have created a partnership with Tangaroa Blue to deliver Island clean ups twice a year. This work also leads to increased awareness in Reef catchment communities about marine debris and actions they can undertake to prevent litter from entering the ocean.

During our most recent clean-up held on the 26th June 2025 our rangers joined with Darumbal Rangers and Students from the Glenmore High Yadaba Nunthi Program to remove debris from Humpy, Butterfish Bay and Long Beach.
Through this project we are now planning a clean-up in late November that focuses on Wreck Beach after Island Locals expressed concern regarding the volume of debris on that beach.
