On behalf of the Woppaburra TUMRA Aboriginal Corporation we would like to welcome Nakia Barney to our Team. His position as Placement Ranger will see him work alongside the team at Queensland Parks and Wildlife learning valuable skills that he can later bring back to Woppaburra.

See his words below:

It gives me immense pride and honour to lead into this new venture on behalf of the Woppaburra people.

This position it not just a job to me, it’s a sense of purpose. I love the fact that every day I’m on country, I’m contributing to help the lands and sea continue to prosper for generations to come just as our ancestors before us.

I join a very passionate and experienced team alongside Darumbal Rangers, Learning vital skills like fire to country, reef scuba diving, weed and pest control, and Coxswain license to name a few.

But just as important is the Learning of Story and sacred site’s on country that one day will be passed on to future Woppaburra Rangers in their ongoing protection. I hope that in being one of the first from our mob, I can help open the eyes and inspire the youth to put their hands up in this very rewarding career path.
