Livingstone Shire Council’s Sustainability by the Sea Day was a wonderful success with
several great organisations coming together on Woppa (Keppel Island) including the
Konomie Island Environmental Education Centre team, The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park
Authority, LSC Disaster Recovery and NRM Team, Eco Tourism Australia, Keppel Turtle
Fund, to share information on how better care for our natural environment.

The day began with a welcome to country from Woppaburra Elders Warinkil Aunty Glenice
and Aunty Julie Blair.

A popular activity on the day was a guided Woppaburra Cultural Heritage Walk led by
Woppaburra TUMRA Deputy Chair Sonny Van Issum and Tyson Croft who shared
information, stories, and history of the Woppaburra people.

Woppaburra TUMRA Deputy Chair Sonny said “Today provided a wonderful opportunity to
be involved in a day were all stakeholders are working towards a common aim of taking care
of country”
